Water Fasting for Weight Loss

One of the best ways to lose weight is water fasting. Instead of burning off calories you can simply leave them in the refrigerator. Water fasting grants many great health benefits. One of these is the rapid cleansing of the body. Yes, water fasting is a very effective way to detoxify. Can water fasting also help you lose weight, improve your health and have more energy?

Water fasting is a period of abstinence from all food except water. After water fasting for more than three days, the body begins to rid itself of fat and unhealthy tissue. Human fat contains around 3,400 calories per pound. Every extra pound of fat that you have on your body can supply you with enough calories for one day of heavy physical labor.

Fasting for Weight Loss

I just finished 11 days of water fasting, and I lost 18 pounds. My friend ended a 5 day fast, alternating between water and juice, and she lost 10 pounds. Throughout my more than 20 years of experience with water fasting I have fastedĀ  between 7 to 19 days at a time. I have created a few rules that keep me safe and healthy and would like to share some of these rules with you. I hope that they help!

Preparing for Water Fasting

Changing your diet slowly before you go on a fast is a good idea. You want to do this 2-3 days before your fast begins to give your body some forewarning. Avoid red meat and any other heavy, protein-rich food. I recommend chicken and fish, fruits and vegetables, yogurt and soups. On the last day before your fast consume only seafood, vegetables and fruit. To gauge the efficiency of your digestive system before going on a fast it’s a good idea to consume beets. This will cause your stool to be red the next day. This is a normal reaction, and it tells you that you don’t have any blockages. You can soften the beets with olive oil before consuming. This makes them go down a bit easier.

During the Fast

You will need to get used to fasting before you can fast for long periods of time. For now, it’s best to stick to short fasts, no longer than two days at a time. If your body becomes overwhelmed with detoxification you may experience headaches. Before you begin any fast always consult with your physician. If you experience severe headaches during your fast, you should cut out caffeine a bit earlier next time. The best way to break a fast is to consume natural fruit and vegetable juices for an entire day.
